Atem Books is collaborating with a-cross, a non profit organization dedicated to promote emerging artists who work in the fields of multiculturalism.

Contemporary art is the first of Across’ paths to explore the change of society and its needs. Across believes in shared art, which gives space and time for comparison.

Art expresses, explores, photographs, mirrors the reality of European territories, characterized by constant migration, crossed every day by men and people carrying cultural patterns, historically structured and different one from the other: from language to religion, from clothes to culinary traditions, from music to folk customs.

Across seeks dialogue and mutual understanding through visual and multimedia art, such as cultural and social urgency, looking for a higher awareness of the present and a new sense of belonging to a common society as vast and complex as it is today.

 

They have now opened a call in which they ask artists from Bilbao, Pisa, Hamburg and Girona to send their works on the topic of multiculturalism. They will celebrate an “ACROSS DAY” in Bilbao next 13th April held on 13rd of April 2012 at the Museo Marìtimo Rìa de Bilbao, an event dedicated to cultural migration which is part of the “7th Conference of International Migrations in Spain – Human Mobility and Social Diversity” (11th – 13th April) organized by the Basque Country University – Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea.

Artists must be related somehow with these 4 cities: Bilbao, Pisa, Hamburg and Girona.

Atem Books and Ubicuo Studio will publish the digital catalogue of the works selected from this open call. The catalogue will be available to download (for free) at the App Store (iPhone/iPad) – and Across is also looking for sponsors to be able to make a printed version.

When we attend to fairs, a lot of people asks us for our catalogue. We never had published any catalogue as we couldn’t spend money doing it, so we have decided to create a digital Atem Books catalogue.

Besides this, recording videos of the books has obliged us to see the books again (and we totally love them!), page after page. We think Multimedia catalogues are the best way to give people the most accurate information about the real books.

We’ve also been working on the “translation” (and we know that a good translator has to deal with a lot of things and, above all, he has to respect a lot of things) of Unlimited Sobrassada, the print book, into a Multimedia book for iPad. We had to re-think again the book and give it a new meaning, a new way of showing the poems,… Maria Cerezo, our Multimedia Screenwriter, created a storyboard of the Application. This storyboard not only explains how the navigation of the book will be, but also what the developer, Marc “Nkm” Guardiola had to develop. It’s a team work and we really enjoy doing it.

At this moment, Cristòfol Pons, the illustrator of Unlimited Sobrassada, is creating a video with a friend of his for the Application. In this video we’ll be able to see Cristòfol Pons painting a drawing in a big wall. Besides, on 12th January we’ll be in Barcelona recording Jaume C. Pons Alorda reciting poems in emblematical places.
